Superconducting diode effect due to magnetochiral anisotropy in topological insulators and Rashba nanowires

چکیده

The critical current of a superconductor can depend on the direction flow due to magnetochiral anisotropy when both inversion and time-reversal symmetry are broken, an effect known as superconducting (SC) diode effect. Here, we consider one-dimensional (1D) systems in which superconductivity is induced via proximity In topological insulator Rashba nanowires, SC magnetic field applied along spin-polarization axis perpendicular nanowire provides measure breaking presence superconductor. Furthermore, strong dependence additional component parallel well position chemical potential be used detect that device region parameter space where phase transition expected arise.

Magnetoelectric effects in superconducting nanowires with Rashba spin-orbit coupling.

Recent experiments in semiconductor nanowires with a spin-orbit coupling and proximity-induced superconductivity exhibit signatures of Majorana bound states predicted to exist in the topological phase. In this Letter we predict that these nanowire systems exhibit unconventional magnetoelectric effects showing a sharp crossover behavior at the topological phase transition. We find that magnetic ...

Anomalous Hall response in two-dimensional topological insulators due to the Stark effect

It is shown that the presence of matrix dipole moments induced by external electric fields can modify the Hall response in two-dimensional topological insulators. In the case of the quantum anomalous Hall effect the induced transverse currents acquire an extra term, being proportional to the Hall conductance and the time derivative of the applied electric field. In the case of the quantum spin ...

Superconducting ‘‘metals’’ and ‘‘insulators’’

We propose a characterization of zero-temperature phases in disordered superconductors on the basis of the nature of quasiparticle transport. In three-dimensional systems, there are two distinct phases in close analogy to the distinction between normal metals and insulators: the superconducting ‘‘metal’’ with delocalized quasiparticle excitations and the superconducting ‘‘insulator’’ with local...

Engineering three-dimensional topological insulators in Rashba-type spin-orbit coupled heterostructures

Topological insulators represent a new class of quantum phase defined by invariant symmetries and spin-orbit coupling that guarantees metallic Dirac excitations at its surface. The discoveries of these states have sparked the hope of realizing non-trivial excitations and novel effects such as a magnetoelectric effect and topological Majorana excitations. Here we develop a theoretical formalism ...

Two-Dimensional Large Gap Topological Insulators with Tunable Rashba Spin-Orbit Coupling in Group-IV films

The coexistence of nontrivial topology and giant Rashba splitting, however, has rare been observed in two-dimensional (2D) films, limiting severely its potential applications at room temperature. Here, we through first-principles calculations to propose a series of inversion-asymmetric group-IV films, ABZ2 (A ≠ B = Si, Ge, Sn, Pb; Z = F, Cl, Br), whose stability are confirmed by phonon spectrum...
